UFC 234: Whittaker vs. Gastelum staff picks and predictions
The Bloody Elbow team has made its own predictions for UFC 234, and it’s a clean sweep for Robert Whittaker to shield his middleweight title by beating Kelvin Gastelum, whilst everybody is backing Israel Adesanya over Anderson Silva in the co-main occasion. To put it differently, congrats to Gastelum and Silva in their wins on Saturday.

Notice: Predictions are entered throughout the week and gathered the day prior to the event. Explanations behind each choice are not required and some authors opt to not do this for their own motives. By way of instance, if Phil Mackenzie entered all of his predictions on Wednesday without adding in any excuses , he has no idea if he is likely to be the only one siding with a single fighter for any given fight.
Robert Whittaker vs. Kelvin Gastelum
Anton Tabuena: 2 prior welterweights fighting for the middleweight belt. Will this convince people that intense weight reduction really isn’t worth the trade off in performance? Likely not, but this ought to be an entertaining bout either way at least. I believe this is going to be closer than what the chances say, but I believe Whittaker is just marginally better just about anywhere, so he must take this. Robert Whittaker by decision.
Mookie Alexander: Gastelum has a chance here. He has strong hands, insane strength — not that Whittaker’s durability is to be scoffed at by any means — and excellent cardio. However, he’s not going to be able to take Whittaker down (or at least hold him there), and Whittaker has way more depth to his offensive striking. His leg kicks in particular can slow Gastelum down, and I believe he dismisses better angles and combines his strike choice and targets more efficiently than Kelvin. It’ll be a close fight through the opening few rounds but Whittaker will come on strong at the following rounds and get the win. Robert Whittaker by unanimous conclusion.
